Chapter 5

The days passed with the same monotony that Amara had tried to maintain to uphold her facade of normalcy. However, her master Selene quickly noticed the change in her attitude and the shroud of darkness enveloping her. They had argued more than once, with Selene trying to coax the truth out of Amara, but she had not spoken. She couldn't tell her the truth. Nor was she sure what was happening to her.

One afternoon, after another tense dispute, Amara locked herself in her room, feeling the weight of the world settling on her shoulders. She sank into a corner, desperate to find a way out of her internal torment.

"Death, can you take me away from here?" she murmured softly, her voice trembling with conflicting emotions.

The echo of her words faded into silence, leaving Amara with an even more overwhelming sense of emptiness. She closed her eyes tightly, desperately longing for the comforting presence of Death, the only constant in her life since she had been forgiven.

Amara suddenly found herself in a clearing bathed in the soft light of dusk. Golden rays filtered through the treetops, painting glimmers of hope on the moss-covered ground. A feeling of familiarity and calm washed over her, and a sigh escaped her lips as she surrendered to the serenity of the surroundings.

A soft whisper resonated beside her, and the ethereal figure of Death materialized. Amara looked around.

"Where are we?" she asked.

"Far away, just as you requested," replied Death.

Amara smiled involuntarily.

"You said you don't answer everyone who calls you, why do you always come when I call?"

Death seemed to ponder its response.

"I don't know," it replied, "I simply can't ignore your call."

Amara smiled again, but this time her cheeks flushed. She looked away to prevent Death from seeing her in this state. It was foolish to feel this way about a being like Death.

While Amara delighted in the beauty of the place, her feet stumbled over a root hidden in the moss-covered ground. Her body lurched forward, and a cry of surprise escaped her lips before she felt a firm and protective grip enveloping her arm. Death held her gently but with a secure strength, preventing her from falling face-first onto the ground.

The cold yet comforting touch of Death enveloped her in a sense of security that Amara had not experienced before. A shiver ran down her spine, but at the same time, a wave of warmth flooded her being. Her heart beat strongly in her chest, and she found herself struggling to control the sudden rush of emotions overwhelming her.

"Thank you," Amara murmured, her voice barely a whisper in the cool evening air.

Death released her slowly, allowing her to straighten up completely. Amara found herself staring at Death with an intensity she couldn't control.

The proximity of Death was both intimidating and comforting, and Amara found herself struggling to understand the complexity of her own feelings toward this ethereal being that had entered her life in such an unexpected way.

"I don't know why I call you this way, why I feel this connection with you.
